Pumpkin Carving

On Saturday we went to Abrams Creek with some wonderful friends.  Jamie and Melissa came up with a fabulous idea to pumpkin carve while we picnic.  So Friday night we purchased our pumpkins and carving materials and prepared for a wonderful Saturday in the mountains.  It was a fabulous day!

Melissa's Pumpkin

In general I lack creativity.  I get super pumped when I color with the boys because it makes me feel artsy.  An overall rule to abide by:   If coloring is all you do in the “art” world, you lack creativity.  So when it comes to pumpkin carving those stencil sheets are my best friend.  I still feel like I produce a semi decent pumpkin even if I have to cheat to get it that way.  Melissa however is crazy creative, she picks up a leaf and makes the coolest pumpkin.  No stencil!  And it doesn’t look horrible.  I was jealous.  Melissa is like that she can take anything and turn it into something awesome, everyone needs a friend like that.  I call dibs on Melissa, find your own creative friend.

I made a huge parenting error in not taking extra clothes.  Ethan fell in the river…the freezing cold river and had zero clothes to change into, and Nick and a potty accident with no extra clothes.  Huge parenting error on my part.

Allen turned a pumpkin into sponge bob (he used a stencil) it was wayyyy cool.  Fantastic job on behalf of my husband.  Ashley carved a cat…I think it was a cat.  I carved a goofy smiley face (it was easy and cute).  I also TRIED to carve trick or treat.  That ended really bad.  I learned a valuable lesson.  Keep it simple, it’s my new motto.  Ethan enjoyed the scenery and playing in the woods more than anything else.  He walked all over Abrams creek.  Nick did a lot of “watching”.  I was not brave enough to in trust him with a knife, he did poke holes in the pumpkin though.  He’s a good hole puncher.  Jamie made a breast cancer awareness pumpkin…he is creative as well.  The best part is that when we were done we gathered it all up, threw away our pumpkin guts and drove around the Cades Cove loop.  Clean up was super easy.  I am all about super easy clean ups.  It is our annual tradition now.  I look forward to next year I learned a lot of lessons this year.  I’m learning from my mistakes, we all should.  Take extra clothes, and keep the stencil simple.

I love this man!

This wasn't the highlight of his day
