I have no idea why in the world I truly enjoy plundering through other peoples crap. It makes no sense. If I like junk so much why don't I just stay home and go through the garage because it's piled high with junk.
The old saying is true "One persons junk is another persons treasure"...I think the old saying should say "One persons junk is another persons treasure until it becomes their junk and then it clutters up their home and they have to go on the show about weirdo hoarders". That's just my opinion.
Since I'm one of the odd people who enjoy yard sales I thought I'd compile a list of do's and don'ts for those who have yard sales and also for those who shop yard sales.
Rules according to Becky.
Let's all try and abide by them OK?
For those HOSTING or HAVING a yard sale-
-The goal of a yard sale is to GET RID OF THE THINGS YOU DON'T WANT ANYMORE.
Keep your eyes set on that goal. If your items are priced on the cheap side people will buy more of it...which in turn makes YOU more money.
The goal of your yard sale isn't to make a million dollars. Sorry, it just doesn't work that way.
If you have books that cost 3.99 at Dollar General about a trashy love story that you purchased in 1987 chances are you will not be able to sell them for 5 bucks a book. True story folks.
-People are going to walk away without purchasing anything from you. It's not the end of the world, don't give them dirty looks as they walk away empty handed from your junk pile. If you are selling it, chances are you don't have a need for it anymore...don't get ticked cause Joe and Suzie don't have a need for it either.
-If your yard sale looks like a hot mess from the road...sales are going to go down. Make it look nice, put the good stuff where folks driving by can see it.
-Please hear me when I say this. YOU ARE TRYING TO GET RID OF STUFF! Price accordingly. Please.
Now....
For those ATTENDING yard sales
-If you are getting 200 dollars worth of stuff for 6 bucks don't you dare offer them a lower price. Just pay the stinkin 6 bucks. If having to pay a dollar extra is gonna break your bank then you need to go home and start a budget and read some Dave Ramsey.
-If what you are buying is going to wind up in your yard sale in a few weeks because you really don't need it that bad....walk away.
-This isn't a car lot. And you're not a car salesman. It's OK to pay sticker price IF sticker price isn't 5 dollars for a trashy dollar general store 1985 novel.
-Judge a yard sale by it's appearance. It's OK to look from the road acknowledge it's a junk pit and keep driving.
I'm glad I got that off my chest.
