Screaming "Bring it on Baby!" |
Ethan quite possibly has the quickest wit of anyone I have ever known. He can spout things off quicker then a comedian. This quality leaves me laughing multiple times a day, and it can often result in quite a bit of soul searching. Here is the tale of "Bring it on Baby".
Ethan loves to wrestle with Allen. Allen loves to wrestle with Ethan. They can do this for hours at a time. Allen enjoys the fact that he is always the victorious winner, and Ethan enjoys any excuse to kick, hit, karate chop, flip, twirl, and fall down. I am your typical over protective annoying mother. While the wrestling is taking place I am typically threatening Allen that if he hurts one hair on my precious baby boys head I'll do blah blah blah and blah to him. Feel free to use your imagination as to what the blah blah and blah is. My grandmother reads my blog and I don't want to tell on myself, she believes in spanking me...still.
Right before the wrestling ensues Ethan always says 4 words. "Bring it on Baby!" He is typically bouncing back and forth on his nimble toes looking like a skilled boxer and has both hands in the air making the
"come here" sign. At this moment regardless of his past experiences with wrestling daddy he is full of confidence, excitement, and knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that THIS time he will be the conqueror of living room wrestling wars.
Moments after stating the 4 words the punch in the gut arrives. No, Allen has not just punched my sweet baby boy in the gut...because if you remember correctly I am screaming "blah" very loudly in the background. The punch in the gut comes from the reality that has just hit Ethan. He then realizes that he has just started a fight with someone who is getting ready to whip his little tail. Ethan suddenly remembers that his daddy is stronger, bigger, faster and is more then willing to "bring it". Ethan quickly yells the words "o no! ooooo noooooo!" but by this time it is to late and Ethan must face the music. Dad has "brought it" and Ethan must do his best to defend himself during the attack. Ethan makes a fatal mistake every single time. The winning blow always comes when Ethan has his back turned trying to run away. Allen grabs him from behind pins him to the ground and once again Dad wins the battle.
This is the story of my life! I ever so confidently look my problem in the eye and scream to the top of my lungs "bring it on baby!!!!!!!". I then realize that "Bring it on Baby!" is a very cocky thing to say. Because my problems have no issue delivering the gut wrenching punches. Now I am faced with the decision of sticking out the fight and possible winning or putting my tail between my legs and running for my life in hopes of escaping the devastation.
I have a feeling that if Ethan would stick to his guns he would come out the winner. Just because Daddy is stronger, bigger, and faster. He is also older. He will give out because despite all efforts thirty year olds do not have the endurance and energy of a young lad such as Ethan.
I wonder how many problems have conquered the fight just because I did not have the energy to see it through.
Goal number two for 2011 is this.
Be careful when saying "bring is on baby!". Don't say it unless I mean it.
And stop retreating when a win is one punch away.
what great thoughts, Becky! Thank you for sharing!
