Cooking with Children

I love to cook!  If you don't know that yet, then you must not read this blog very often.  Shame on you!  The boys love to help me cook and I enjoy the help and the company.  While reading this blog I came across a study that said if children help in the preperation of the food they always ate what was served.  I think that is awesome!  I think we all can agree we want our children to grow up to be healthy non picky eaters.

It always helps when they get to lick the bowl

There is always something your kids can help you out with.  Ethan loves to "scurb" aka stir things, Nick loves to be the garbage man and run back and forth throwing things away for me.  Both boys love to sit on the counter and watch all the happenings and I love the conversations we have.  They are so proud of dinner and love to tell daddy all about how it was made.  None of our kids are picky and I am ever so grateful.  Ethan's brother Jermaine will only eat chicken nuggets and grilled cheese and boy does that put a kink in just about all meals.

My grandmother always let me help in the kitchen.  Sometimes she would give me an empty bowl and a spoon and let me pretend I was cooking.  I love those memories and want to make sure kids who come through our home can take that with them.  Ashley enjoys learning the ins and outs of cooking and I am confidant that when she enters the next stage of her life she will have some knowledge of how to survive in the kitchen.  I love being able to cook tasty meals for my family and I want her to have that same tool.

Here is Nick helping me make Baked Ziti

So what's the purpose of this blog?  To encourage you to bring your kids into the kitchen with you.  Get creative and see how much they enjoy it.  It's fun, I promise!
