I think toys should be categorized into two different groups. First group should be the toys children enjoy playing with. Second group should be toys parents enjoy their children to play with. I never knew these groupings until I became a parent. I believe these groups could be renamed toys people without children create and toys parents create. Here are some examples...
No parent would ever event toys to make loud repetitive noises! Why you ask? The answer is very simple. Children make loud noises all the time, as a child the concept of whispering is still many years away and if your children are anything like mine repetitive questions are in abundance! Why in the world would you want to add to this non stop noise that has taken over our lives?????? I have found that if a toy has a "voice" it becomes one of my child's favorite possessions. Ethan has a car that sings the same song over and over and over and over and over and over...AND the only volume this car has is LOUD. It is one of Ethan's favorite toys...I am convinced if it were just a car it would not be a prized possession.
Gabby had glitter glue at one point in time. I am convinced glitter glue kits were not invented by parents. The glitter glue ended up every wear but on the craft project. In Gabby's hair, Ethan's hair, my carpet, my hair, Gabby's face, Ethan's face, EVERY WEAR BUT THE PAPER! Not only that but this set of glitter glue had multiplying powers. I promise every time I would find a glitter tube i would throw it away just to find 10 more in its place...worse than rabbits!
Other toys I have problems with are toys with multiple small pieces. Like Lego's for example. Every time they are played with I am sure I get them picked back up only to step on them later, vacuum them up, find them under the bed, in the dogs mouth...I can never seem to pick up all the pieces to Lego's.
So these are some examples of toys my children adore and I do not! I do enjoy watching my kids occupy their time, I just wish that quiet, non mess making, large toys had the same effect...who's with me?
