Since I wrote a blog as to show the differences between Ethan and myself I thought I should also share with you a conversation we had that I am positive I had with my grandmother when I was 5.
Ethan: Mom I like my green tangs (broccoli) and chicken but dese tangs don’t like me. (translated version of that is Mom I like my broccoli and chicken but I don’t like the carrots)
Me: Did you try the carrots? The rule is you don’t have to like it, but you do have to try it.
Ethan: I don’t like to try it…I don’t like dese tangs
Remembering that I had made him try the carrots the last time I made them I gave in and did not make him try them….Then the conversation went a little like this.
Me: Can mommy tell you a secret?
Ethan: YAH!
Me: Mommy doesn’t like carrots either
Ethan: (laughing) you don’t??? I don’t like dem eider (translated I don’t like them either)
Me: I think daddy is the only one who likes the carrots
Ethan: (in a very frustrated tone of voice he demands) MOM!!!!!! THEN WHY DO YOU MAKE DESE TANGS? GROSS!
Ethan then proceeded to give the dog his carrots.
I couldn’t help but laugh because memories came flooding back to my first battle over the carrots that I did not want to eat. I never could figure out why my grandmother would make something KNOWING I didn’t like it…see even at a young age I was convinced the world revolved around me.
